Trips & Visitors at Thames View Primary

At Thames View Primary, learning extends beyond the classroom. Each year, pupils take part in a planned programme of educational trips and visiting experts, giving them meaningful experiences that deepen understanding, build cultural capital and create lasting memories. These opportunities strengthen teamwork, curiosity and a sense of community.

Our Annual Offer: 2 Trips & 1 Visitor

Every year group benefits from:

• Two curriculum-linked trips

• One visiting workshop, speaker or specialist experience

Where possible, our main curriculum trips are scheduled on Hook Day, usually the first Monday of each term. This helps launch new learning with excitement and purpose, giving pupils an immediate, immersive start to their topic.

Curriculum Trips

Curriculum trips are carefully planned to support the learning taking place that term. They may be used to:

• Launch a new topic on Hook Day

• Support learning mid-unit, providing real-world context

• Celebrate the end of a unit, consolidating knowledge through memorable experiences

Each trip is chosen to strengthen the knowledge, skills and vocabulary pupils are developing in class.

Local Learning-Area Visits

In addition to the two main trips, pupils may also take part in short local visits when they naturally support everyday learning. These might include:

• A visit to a place of worship

• A walk to a local landmark or community space

• Fieldwork or observation activities within the local area

These visits are usually shorter, low-cost and closely tied to the curriculum, helping pupils connect their learning to the community around them.

Visitors to School

Every year group also enjoys one high-quality visitor experience, such as:

• Workshops led by artists, authors or STEM specialists

• Talks from community figures or subject experts

• Hands-on sessions that bring a topic to life

Visitors provide expert knowledge, fresh perspectives and engaging activities without leaving the school site.
