At Thames View Primary School, our curriculum is designed to help every child belong, achieve and thrive. We want pupils to develop strong academic foundations, a love of learning and the confidence to understand themselves, their community and the wider world.
Our vision is to develop pupils as confident, curious and responsible Global Citizens. Children begin by learning about their own lives, families, school and local community, before broadening their understanding of Kent, the wider UK and the world beyond.
Through our values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience, pupils learn to value themselves and others, take responsibility for their choices and develop the confidence to face challenges. We want every child to leave Thames View with the knowledge, character and ambition to help shape a fairer, healthier and more sustainable future.
A curriculum with knowledge, reading and Global Citizenship at its heart
We offer a broad, ambitious and carefully sequenced curriculum that helps pupils build knowledge, vocabulary and skills over time. Reading, discussion and high-quality texts are central to this, giving pupils the language and confidence they need to think deeply, explain their ideas and make meaningful links across subjects.
Our curriculum is organised around a clear journey. Pupils begin with what is familiar — themselves, their families, school and local community — before learning about Kent, the wider UK, different societies, cultures, environments and global issues. As they move through school, they revisit important themes such as identity, diversity, belonging, sustainability, interconnection, responsibility and social action with increasing depth.
Subjects are carefully planned so that pupils develop both subject-specific knowledge and wider understanding. Geography helps pupils understand place, environment and interconnection. History helps pupils understand everyday life, society and legacy. RE, PSHE, Computing, Science, the Arts, DT, PE and Forest School all contribute to pupils’ understanding of themselves, others and the world around them.

How We Bring Learning to Life
Learning at Thames View is brought to life through carefully chosen texts, practical experiences, fieldwork, outdoor learning, educational visits, visitors, pupil leadership and community links. These opportunities are not add-ons; they are planned to deepen pupils’ understanding and help them connect learning to real people, places and issues.
Our curriculum supports all pupils, including those with SEND and those who may face barriers to learning. Teachers use clear explanations, explicit vocabulary teaching, retrieval, modelling, visual support, discussion and carefully planned adaptations so that every child can access ambitious learning.
Through subjects, enrichment and wider school life, pupils learn that they have a voice and a role to play. They are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, show respect for different perspectives and take responsibility for their school, community and wider world.
