Reading is the key to success!

Children will be expected to read most nights in the week for at least 10 minutes. Please record what you have been reading and how your child has got on with the book in your child's reading record.

Maths:

We will be learning about finding fractions of shapes and amounts and then move on to Measurement - mass, capapcity and temperature.

The children will need to use Time Tables Rockstars, which is an online app that supports the learning of times table facts.

In Year 2, we focus on the 2, 5 & 10 times tables and this resource is a fun way to support this. It is expected by the END of Year 2, that, your child knows the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. If you lose/forget your login or have any queries, please see the class teacher.  Key ways to help your child SHINE

Maths

Having the confidence and accuracy of rapidly recalling number facts is the key to success in Maths. White Rose Maths have created a great app that allows primary aged pupils the opportunity to develop these skills in short impactful bursts. Children are given as many questions as they can answer within 1 minute. They can practise Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division through a series of progressive questions. Why not download this app onto a tablet or phone to be easily accessed?

Reading

Please ensure that your child is reading frequently for at least 10 minutes at a time, at least 4 times each week. It is important that your child is reading regularly as this helps them with all their subjects as well as broadening their own vocabulary and knowledge. We encourage your child to read a range of texts, from fictional stories to leaflets to magazines to menus etc. There are opportunities to read all around us.

Spelling

Children are encouraged to continue to practise their weekly spellings at home. These spellings will be tested each Friday. In addition, Year 2 will learn the KS1 Common Exception Words and the children are expected to be able to read and spell these words independently by the END of Year 2.
